Hey, are you familiar with Jeremy Beale? I had the privilege of spending a day watching his clinic this past Wed. at my old trainer's farm. I signed up to ride with him when he comes back in Oct. :) YEAH!! I really, really, really liked him!!
Don't laugh too hard, but I plan to ride each of my ponies in a lesson...and Tonto does NOT canter under saddle. He's 16 yrs old and I've never taught him, honestly because I never thought I'd ride him very often.....
I'm wondering at this point in his life if I could teach him to canter under saddle by having someone else pony us in an arena and slowly pick up the pace until he is cantering along-side the pony-horse. Is that a stupid idea? My trainer said she would teach him the canter voice command on the lunge-line, then e it under saddle, but my problem is, I don't have a good enclosed place to lunge him and he makes me run around to the point of collapsing and he never breaks his 90-mile-an-hour extended trot!
Anyway, I'll let you know how the Jeremy Beale clinic pans out. Now I've got to save up the $$....
This weekend I am riding Tonto in the River Regions Horse Council's "Western Dressage" clinic. This really neat lady from Sweden (I think) rode in the expo last year and I LOVED how her horse went, so when I saw she was teaching a FREE clinic this year, I signed us up! :) It ought to be fun!

Okay, here is an okay example of "Western Dressage." This horse should be in a snaffle though and not a curb. Defeats the whole puropse; there are some other things I don't like about this video as well, but it gives you an idea... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHIa8OF9ORA
I'll see if I can find you some better videos. You can google "western dressage" and find all kinds of stuff. It is literally supposed to be "dressage," just in a western saddle. I think it is a really GOOd thing, if it is done in the correct manner. It is in its infant stage at this point.
