I've been putting this off for a while........

This is a picture of something you will never see again.

Red horse is permanently lame, he has a bone chip in his knee and arthritis in his fetlocks. The vet said he would be sound for the occasional pony ride at a walk, but thats it. So now we're looking for a pasture ornament home for him.
This makes me so angry because all this could have been avoided if he had not been raced as a two year old. The whole racing industry just disgusts me. This is a wonderful gelding that has just a perfect mind, he is willing, friendly, polite, and just so darn sweet. And there is NOTHING we can do to make him comfortable. NOTHING. All we can do is turn him out and hope he can still walk when he's 18.  I HATE racing, it ruins so many good horses and makes so many more that no one can take, so they get a roadtrip to mexico. And ruining horses could be avoided for the most part by WAITING to race them until THEIR FINISHED GROWING!!

so all i have left to say is.........

SCREW YOU RACEHORSE OWNERS!!!! YOU GREEDY SLIME OF THE EARTH!!! THESE HORSES ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND YOU FAILED THEM!!!!

i'm done..........

awww, I'm sorry. That is sad.
I agree..I hear/see more shitty trainers that good ones. I know there are good ones out there, just NOT ENOUGH! My Laz was raced HARD for 6 yrs and has a lot of issues from it. All you can do it take those animals and show them love for now until the end. It's not an easy task but you are strong enough :)

But don't you understand? If we waited until a horse was grown for racing, then A) one would have to actually train him properly, God forbid! B) clueless, patientless, and extraordinarily rich racehorse owners would have to WAIT more than a year or two and SPEND more money to actually train him properly, and couldn't pressure the trainer to train him super fast, God forbid! C) One would have to actually breed quality, sound horses, not just speedy glass figurines. And that would mean Joe Shmoe couldn't breed his track fail so Sally Schmuck couldn't buy a racehorse and think it's going to the Derby and then dump it when she sees that only QUALITY horses make it there, but she'll probably want her money back so she'll breed the poor thing or sell on the meat market! And that would all mean sizing down the gene pool and not as many people would be trying to make money (notice I said "trying".) GOD FORBID!

Granted, though, I have met some very responsible TB trainers and owners and breeders here in TX via LOPE Rescue who are genuinely concerned about their horses' welfare after they own them, and even a few who were willing to take them back. If only there were more like that.

Damn shame about Red, really :(

it just makes me so angry because he was going to be a dressage horse or an eventer and with his amazing brain he would have cleaned up at shows
